"HEIRLOOM SEEDS AND SEED SWAP"

The Foster Preservation Society’s April meeting features Bryan Connolly. Mr. Connolly will talk about seed saving and heirloom vegetable seeds. He is bringing seeds to swap, so come and bring your heirloom seeds to trade! Bryan Connolly, PhD student at the University of Connecticut, is a seed saver conserving over 150 varieties of vegetables. He is the author of The Wisdom of Plant Heritage, the Northeast Organic Farming Association’s handbook on small-scale seed production. Additionally, Bryan is a first year doctoral student at UCONN studying the combined impact of deer and invasive plant species on the native flora of New England. He is also a botanical consultant for the Connecticut Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. Previously Bryan has worked surveying rare plant populations for the Ct. Department of Environmental Protection, coordinating a volunteer invasive plant survey at the New England Wild Flower Society, and as an instructor at Connecticut College, teaching classes in environmental studies, sustainable agriculture, and field botany. Further, he is a food co-op worker and chicken farmer! The meeting is open to the public. Bring your heirloom seeds to swap! As usual, delicious refreshments will be served! Please join us!

Fourth Annual Plant & Yard Sale May 31st South Foster Fire Station Route 6 & 94 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Our plant sale has been very popular over the past three years due to the beautiful, healthy plants donated by FPS members and friends. Please bring donated plants to the Station on Friday, May 30th from 9am-1pm. Plants that come from our gardens must be potted by May 10th to be ready for sale on May 31st, or purchased perennials, annuals, herbs or unusual plants will be appreciated. We will be calling members for help and donations (we’ll gratefully accept a financial contribution in lieu of plants). Indoor " Yard Sale " We will rent tables (inside the Fire Station this year). We request donations of good items to sell. Rental fee for one table is $20.; 2/$35. Please call Janet by May 23rd to reserve. Foster Old Home Days July 25 - 27 Foster Town House, 180 Howard Hill Road The Society sets up our tables on the main level of the Town House. Displays include our popular album collection for browsing. FPS and Town Historian Viola Ulm are on hand to answer questions and tell stories of the "old days" in Foster. You can purchase our publications and old maps. They make wonderful gifts. We always have our popular RAFFLE--- of handcrafted items as well as donated new merchandise. Drawing takes place at 4:00 p.m. Sunday. A DONATION OF HANDCRAFTED ITEMS OR NEW MERCHANDISE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
